Don McQuinn, my teacher at a writer's retreat in Maui, told me I had great ideas, but needed to learn the "craft" of writing and editing. My mind full of the skills he passed on to me, I came home a different, and better writer, now able to edit my own work. Don's straightforward way of teaching, and vast knowledge, are the reason that this fall, I will have 11 books published, including 25 Words, which has been translated into other languages, and will be out in audio soon. Because of another of my books, I was asked to write a piece for Lifetime Television. If I had to name one thing that had the greatest impact on my writing, it would be my teacher, Don McQuinn. I will be forever grateful. He helped my dream come true.
| You won't find a better writing coach or critiquer of material than Don McQuinn. He knows how to make the words dance. I've seen him in action in countless sessions at the Maui Writers' Conference where he whipped writers into top shape with his characteristic warmth, humor, and wisdom. (No actual whips were used, but he'll be tough on you, which is what you want, right?) My own writing has improved from watching him skillfully critique others. He knows publishing inside out and he'll give you insights and proven techniques that will make your writing sparkle. Don's advice and keen instruction came at just the right time to help me hone the revision that sold my first book. Now I'm working on my fourth novel under contract, and I still value the advice and support he gave me back in the beginning. I would--and do--heartily recommend Don to writers looking for clear, intelligent guidance rendered with loads of personal charm and many years of professional experience to back it. He's a gem!
